A skin abscess is a lump that appears below the skin's surface. It's similar to a pimple but larger and deeper under the skin. A skin abscess is usually painful, full of pus, and the skin surrounding it may feel thick or swollen. A bacterial infection typically causes it

Abscess Symptoms

The most telling sign of an abscess is the large bump on the skin. The area on top of the abscess is usually inflamed, while the centre feels soft or "squishy." The skin surrounding the abscess may also be warm to the touch.

Depending on the abscess cause, other symptoms may also be present. These symptoms may include:

• fever
• chills
• swelling
• fluid drainage from the abscess
